I trained at the Belmont Hypnotherapy Centre in 2000, where I obtained an honours hypnotherapy certificate accredited by The British Association of Therapeutic Hypnosis. Since then I have attended many additional courses in hypnotherapy, PTSD and trauma, critical incident debriefing, EFT, NLP, Life coaching and Reiki, always keeping abreast of the latest techniques including stress management, nutrition, weight loss and pain management.

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy allows’ you to be guided into a physically relaxed state while remaining mentally focused. It is a pleasant, relaxing experience allows you to access your subconscious mind and accept specific suggestions based on the removal of unwanted thoughts, behaviours and feelings. The suggestions will be thought out and agreed with the practitioner before the hypnotherapy starts.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?
We start by discussing the problem you are experiencing. We will then go through relaxation exercises that will be specifically customised for you, followed by a guided hypnosis session. I will also give you exercises that will support you in the new positive changes that you are making. Many conditions can be treated in just a few sessions. I will also explain how hypnotherapy works and answer any questions that you may wish to ask prior to the treatment.
Will I go to sleep or lose control? Hypnosis is not sleep. It does not involve losing consciousness. You are always in control and aware of what is going on. Hypnotherapy cannot make you do anything against your will.
When in hypnosis, you can move around, the same way as you would during sleep, and it won’t disturb you. If you wish to talk, you can do so. Most importantly, you will hear and remember everything that is important for you to remember.
You are always in control in a hypnotherapy session.
How does hypnotherapy work? We may not realise it but we all experience hypnosis regularly and naturally. For example, just before you fall asleep at night or as you awaken the following morning, you may feel drowsy and relaxed. You may also spend some time each day drifting off into a daydream. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and altered awareness.
During your treatment, you will feel very relaxed, both physically and mentally, and this makes your subconscious mind open to positive suggestions to help you to take back control and make changes to overcome problems that are affecting your life.
In hypnosis, it is possible to consider new perspectives and discover inner strengths to help achieve your goals, overcome fears and make positive changes in your habits or patterns of thought.
A session of hypnotherapy should leave you feeling calm, with a sense of well-being and the ability to meet the challenges of daily life with confidence and inner strength.
I can also teach you Mindfulness as part of your hypnotherapy session. This can be a useful option for people suffering from anxiety or mild depression. A combined approach can help you become aware of negative emotions and also provide you with cognitive skills to reduce anxieties and emotions.
Do you specialise in any particular areas? I cover a wide range of areas for treatment. I am particularly interested in weight control and smoking cessation as well as helping people over-come fears and phobias, anxieties and stress, and developing self-confidence and social skills.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Almost everyone can go into a light relaxed trance state. However, the treatment is not suitable for those with serious mental health problems, sufferers of epilepsy, the very young or those under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, nobody can be hypnotized against their will. How receptive you will be to suggestions depends on a number of things including how comfortable you feel with your practitioner and how motivated you are to make the changes.
If you are being treated by a medical practitioner, you will be asked to contact your GP for their permission to treat. This is to ensure that the hypnotherapy does not interfere with any treatment you might be currently undergoing.
